# Serial interface devices

Serial interface devices transmit data using serial ports. They send information sequentially, bit by bit. These commonly include devices with RS-232, RS-485, or RS-422 interfaces.

While Ethernet, FireWire, and USB interfaces also use serial data transfer, they are not typically considered serial interface devices.

Some examples of devices that use a serial interface are microcontrollers, certain printers, and modems.
