Protect: sync passwords
You can sync passwords that you've saved in Yandex Browser on your computers, smartphones and tablets. During the syncing process, an encrypted copy of your password repository gets sent to the Yandex server and then passed on to your other synced devices. At the same time, passwords from your other devices are added to the vault on your current computer.
Advantages of password syncing
- Your saved passwords will automatically be entered into entry forms on all your devices.
- If your computer fails, you can restore passwords from the server.
Disable password syncing
Password syncing is enabled automatically when the syncing option is enabled.
Password syncing is disabled if syncing is fully disabled. To disable only password and card syncing:
- Click .
- Disable the Passwords and cards option.
Password syncing conflict
If you change your master password on one of the synced devices, after synchronization, the password will change on other devices as well. If you change the master password on a device that is not synced, or create different master passwords on devices before they are synced, there will be a conflict. For example, you had entered one master password on your smartphone and another on your computer, and then enabled syncing. If this is the case, the browser will not know which master password to use, to encrypt the merged vault.
If there is a syncing conflict, the settings icon appears the first time you enter your master password. To resolve the conflict:
- Click .
- What you do next depends on whether you remember the master password for your other device:
- Click Merge with password vault on this computer.
- Enter the master password for your other device.
You remember your master password for your other deviceThe browser will re-encrypt your passwords on another device using the master password for the current computer. The master password for your other device will become invalid. The newly encrypted passwords will be added to your merged password vault.
You don't remember your master password for your other devicePasswords for this device will have to be deleted. To do this, click Delete. Passwords encrypted with the master password that you have forgotten will be deleted. Other passwords will be encrypted with the master password for the current computer. The forgotten master password will become invalid.
You can also choose not to resolve conflicts. In this case, the passwords will not be synced (the history, bookmarks and other data will be synced as before).
Note. If you created a backup encryption key on another device, try resetting the master password on it. Enter the master password for the computer you're using as your new master password.

If there is a conflict between three or more devices:
- Click .
- What you do next depends on whether you remember the master password for your other devices:
- Mark the vaults that you want to join with your current one.
- Click Merge with password vault on this computer.
- Enter the password from each conflicting device one at a time.
- Select the vaults for which you don't remember the master password.
- Tap Delete.
- For other devices, click Merge with password vault on this computer.
- Enter the password from each conflicting device one by one.
You remember your master password on other devicesThat way the browser will re-encrypt passwords from your other devices using the master password for your current computer. Your master passwords on other devices will be invalidated. Passwords from your current computer will be added to your merged password vault.
You don't remember your master password for other devicesPasswords for such devices will have to be deleted.
Passwords encrypted with the master password that you have forgotten, will be deleted. Passwords from other devices will be re-encrypted using the master password for the current computer. Master passwords for other devices will become invalid. The newly encrypted passwords will be added to your merged password vault.
You can also choose not to resolve conflicts. In this case, the passwords will not be synced (the history, bookmarks and other data will be synced as before).
Note. If you created a backup encryption key on another device, try resetting the master password on it. Enter the master password for the computer you're using as your new master password.

You have changed your password but your information is still encrypted with your old password
Passwords are saved in encrypted form on Yandex's server. The password to your Yandex account is used as the encryption key. If you change that password, the browser needs to decrypt the passwords on the server and then re-encrypt them using a new key. If an error occurs during this process, you will see an error message. To fix it:
- If you remember your old account password:
- Click .
- Enter your old password in the sync form.
- If you don't remember your old account password or didn't change it, then the encrypted passwords will be lost. However, you can restore the remaining sync data:
- Make sure that the browser has all the bookmarks, extensions, and settings that you want to save.
- Click .
- Click Delete synchronized data.
- In the Would you like to delete this information? window, click Yes, delete to confirm that you want to delete all account data from the synchronization server.
- Enable syncing. Data will be sent from your browser to the server.
To save passwords when reinstalling the browser
All the passwords you save are encrypted. We do not know the encryption key and will not be able to restore your passwords if you reinstalled the browser without saving your profile data.
To ensure that passwords are not lost when reinstalling the browser:
- Enable syncing. Your passwords will be sent to the server.
- Reinstall the browser.
- Enable syncing in the reinstalled browser. Soon the passwords will return to your computer.
- Disable syncing in the reinstalled browser.
- Load the device.
- Disconnect your device from the Internet.
- Disable syncing in the browser on your device.
- Re-enable the Internet connection on your device.
- Enable syncing in the browser on your device. Your passwords will be sent to the server.
- Enable syncing in the reinstalled browser. After some time, the passwords will load from the server.
You can transfer to your computer the passwords saved in Yandex Browser on another device (computer, smartphone or tablet).
Unfortunately, you can't restore passwords that you didn't save on your devices.
